Nigerian artiste Chinedu Emmanuel Opute a. k .a 'NPZ' was born into a musically talented family in the city of Lagos, Nigeria. He is the leading Afrodance artiste of a generation of musicians that emerged following the absence of modern Nigerian music since the passing of the late great Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Kuti.

NPZ has effectively been involved with music since he discovered his talent at the tender age of fourteen (14), beginning with stints at junior high - Babcock University High School - where he joined an Acapella group - 'The N.E.X.T'. His professional career as an artiste began in 2009, upon his return to Nigeria from the United Kingdom where he obtained an undergraduate degree in Business Marketing and Information Technology at Stone Bridge College.

Inspired by artistes such as Fela Kuti, 2face, Michael Jackson and R. Kelly whose songs are based on their experiences, he penned lyrics that focused on the socio-cultural issues he had absorbed and began performing them at open-mic events, which to his astonishment were well received. Renowned as a versatile artiste whose music is a fusion of influences ranging from r'n'b to reggae to dance; NPZ's vocal abilities which include falsettos stunned his audiences, peers and family, who encouraged him to follow his dreams. He copped the name NPZ and finally surrendered to his gift.

NPZ debuted as a professional artiste in 2009 with a song titled 'So Close', produced by artiste and producer, Davido who is well known for his hit single 'Dami-Duro'. He has since released further hit singles including a collaborative tribute with Davido to his musical idol - Fela Kuti, titled 'African Champion'. He is known to perform with artistes such as 2face Idibia, Wande Coal, Biggiano and Shank, to name a few. In 2011, NPZ signed to a label 'Time Gate' recent released a new afro-electric dance single 'Shut It Down'.

NPZ plans to run a music label and distribution firm and considers it a duty to pass on his skills and experiences to the next generation and for many years has taken an interest in studying emerging trends in popular culture. Young aspirants have kept him on his toes and reinforced his potent belief that African music has the ability go beyond its current borders and reach a broader audience.

NPZ believes in exploring modern musical forms, but his philosophy is that his nationalism must be reflected in his music through retaining his Nigerian accent, dances and visual imagery. This can be heard in his new works, particularly his fusion of afrobeat and electronic dance he coined 'Afrolectric' music.

NPZ's latest work will soon be available in Nigeria and abroad. Watch this space!
